Confirmed

It is confirmed; tomorrow is the acceptance day for the house. I drove by the house on my way home today, and they still haven’t changed the rock on the house, but my stove is in there. :) I guess they’ll change the rock sometime in the near future.

Updated again

To fix some problems with the feeds and track/pingbacks, I have updated the blog software to v1.5.1.1.

To be done Friday…

So, I called the builder yesterday, and they said that closing should be Friday. I really hope they’re right this time. They said they found a chip in the Corian countertops, so they were ordering a new sheet. It would be so nice to spend my 3-day weekend moving into the house. We’ll see how it goes…

Volunteer Day

Today was volunteer day for me. I signed up through IBM to go volunteer at the local Catalina Magnet High School. We moved a bunch of old 300-400 MHz computers out of a lab and moved some new computers from across the campus into it. It was actually pretty fun, even though it was hot outside…I could really use the physical exercise. :)

Visit to Hobbs

This past weekend, I got the “opportunity” to go back to visit Hobbs, NM. Actually, it was a planned trip to go see my girlfriend’s sister graduate high school. She graduated from the same high school that we went to. We flew out on Saturday from Phoenix to Midland, TX. The reason we chose Phoenix is that for some odd reason Southwest doesn’t fly from Tucson to Midland…they don’t even fly from Tucson to Lubbock. This is a bit strange, because Southwest does fly from Tucson to El Paso, and from El Paso to Midland…but you cannot choose this route via their website. Anyway, it was nice to see my dad and take a couple days off. I got a chance to go to the new Black Gold Casino in Hobbs, and then got to play 9 holes of golf in 102 degree temperatures. :) All in all, a great trip.

More about the house…

I don’t think I mentioned the scheduled completion for the house, but what an eventful few weeks it’s been. Really I should have blogged about this earlier, but I’ve been bad about that. The orientation and signing of the docs at title was supposed to be last Monday, and that would make the final closing yesterday. Well, after they put the rock on the house, I discovered it was the wrong one. It was the right one as far as they were concerned, but we chose the color scheme of the model, and apparently the builders have no idea where that rock came from. This ended up being a huge, long drawn-out deal.

House

The house is almost finished. I have posted pictures on the photos page, but I haven’t added any in a week or two. The reason is that there weren’t any significant changes over the last couple of weeks. This week has been a different story. Tuesday, they fixed the garage door (we wanted the one with window panes), they filled the driveway with cement, and got the stove in. Then, I came back on Wednesday, and they had the rock on the outer part of the house. However…it was the wrong style and wrong color! I’m in the process of working with the builder on a resolution, and will find out more tomorrow. Monday is the set day for orientation and document signing. Next Friday, one week from today, is the acceptance of the house. Very exciting. I’m just looking forward to getting out of an apartment.

Site update

Not that any of you care, but I just updated the site to WordPress 1.5.1. It includes some additional bugfixes, etc. that just allow the site to continue to run smoothly. I also haven’t blogged in a while, so I thought that this would be a good thing to mention.
