Elevation rock change photos

I have just posted pictures of the house with the rock changed. This is color scheme #8 as far as the rock goes…it’s not what we originally chose, but it’s close enough and we think it looks MUCH better.

High-Speed Internet!

I finally got my High-Speed Internet installed! It’s about time! So, since I didn’t give you the play-by-play, I’m going to do that now. Tuesday, they came and blew out the hose that has the wires in it. So, they scheduled the installer to come on Thursday. Well, Thursday, the Cox guy came by and installed the digital phone service and said that he installed the HSI too. Well, I waited about an hour and a half, and my modem still didn’t sync up. So, I called Cox, and they said that they would have a technician come by on Friday. So, Friday, the guy came about 30 minutes late and it took him all of ten minutes to switch the wire at the box and get it working again. Apparently the previous installer hooked up my internet to the wrong room…with the way things have been going, all I can say is “typical.”

The List

As promised, here is the list of things that needed to be fixed prior to closing. I know, I know…I shouldn’t have signed the papers without these items being fixed, but, hey….it’s my first house, and I wanted to move in during the Memorial Day weekend.

Can it get any worse?

So, as I’ve mentioned before, I had a list of things for the builder to fix on the house. Most of them were minor (initially). I’ll try to post a copy of the list soon, but today’s story includes one simple one that turned out to be quite bad.

  • Remove the screws from the wall/Corian countertops. Caulk and fix scratches as necessary.
  • So, apparently when my stove AND dishwasher were stolen, they had to replace the Corian countertops as well. To hold the back part of the countertops on, they used some screws temporarily drilled at an angle into the wall. Well, I have been trying to get them to pull out the screws, and I didn’t touch them because I didn’t put them there. So, the guy is removing them and he gets to the third one….

    Stupid Qwest and DSL

I normally don’t like to actually point out the company, but I’ve had some problems with Qwest. I think it’s completely stupid that when you move to a new location, you must first set-up the phone line, THEN call back Qwest and see if you can get DSL, THEN proceed with ordering DSL. Why can’t they either 1) Know that DSL is or is not available in the area BEFORE or 2) Do the whole process all at once. In the case of #2, I call and say I want a phone line and want DSL. They schedule out the time and have the guy come install the phone and then THEY do whatever they need to do to see if it’s available, and if it is…get it working instead of me having to go through numerous steps to get DSL installed 3 weeks after I move in. Needless to say, DSL is NOT available in my new home….I discover this 3 weeks after moving in. :( So, I called Cox Communications. They were the most friendly people. The guy told me that Cable Internet IS available, and that they can also supply me with Digital Phone services and it would *** ALL *** be done on Monday, June 20. What a deal. That’s what I call service.

    Rock changed!

So, the rock did not get replaced before we got back from our vacation like they initially said it would. The idea that I got was that it was going to be done before we got back. But, we got back and nothing was changed. Well, upon talking to the builders, apparently they thought we sent them away or something…seemed to me like they were stalling yet again. They then said it would be changed on Thursday (yesterday). Well, do you think I was going to actually believe them? What a surprise! We got home yesterday to find that the rock was changed, and it looks GREAT! I’ll take more pictures once I get my internet connectivity back.

    Vacation

I left for vacation on Tuesday, June 7 and returned on Sunday, June 12. That is part of the reason why I’ve neglected blogging, the other being that I have no internet access at the new house yet. That’s another story. Vacation was fun though…we flew into Amarillo, TX to visit my mom. I rarely see my mom, so I was pretty excited about the whole trip. I ended up staying with her in Pampa, TX until Thursday. On Thursday, we went to see my grandfather who has alzheimers. Very sad deal, but we make it a point to go visit when I go up there. My dad met us at the clinic and we left for the family reunion. The reunion was held about 3 hours from Pampa, near Fort Cobb, Oklahoma. It’s a small lake town. We ended up going out on my dad’s bass boat. I didn’t do any fishing, but my dad and brother did. My brother caught a pretty large fish, but I was helping him bring it out of the water and the line snapped. Oh well.

    Builder rant

The rock on the house is still not fixed yet. At one point, the builder told me it would be done by this Wednesday. Well, Wednesday has come, and Wednesday has gone. They also told me a while back that they weren’t going to put the shutters on the house until the rock was changed, because they didn’t want to accidentally damage the shutters. Well, the other day a guy showed up and put the shutters on. I guess it’s time to run over there for another little chat.

There are a few other minor things that need to be fixed in the house. By “a few,” I mean around ten. One of them being my dead tree in the front yard. They also put screws into the walls above my Corian countertops to hold it in temporarily…well, they’re still there. The bad thing about that is, it looks like the screw head scratched the countertop, so I’m not removing them, they are. I’ll keep you guys posted. I miss playing Halo!!

    Moved in

Sorry for the lack of posting, but I got the house keys last Friday. Dave was kind enough to help me with putting up ceiling fans, window blinds, microwave, and even help me move. Thanks Dave! It tooks us all last weekend to get that done. Rebecca and I are still working on getting everything set-up in the house. Last Tuesday, I got my DirecTV installed, so at least we have TV now. I always thought I didn’t watch much TV, but being without it sucks. Instead of unpacking everything, Rebecca wanted to paint the master bathroom and bedroom. Well, she finished that up last night. It looks great. Today, we get the phone line installed..which means it’s only another week or so until I get my high-speed internet, since I use DSL.
