Safari passes Acid2

I’m not sure if this is something that was fixed in 10.4.3, but Safari (Apple’s built-in web browser) now passes the Acid2 test. What is Acid2, you may ask? Well, to quote from the website, Acid2 is “a test page, written to help browser vendors ensure proper support for web standards in their products.” I do know that Safari did not pass this test in the original 10.4 Tiger release.

Test your browser

If you see a smiley face with the words “Hello World!” above it, then the browser passes the test. I don’t think Internet Explorer passes, and I know that Firefox 1.0.7 doesn’t pass either.

The Hobbsans

Quick catch up for you all. I went to Hobbs High School in a small town in New Mexico. Yes, I was a member of the band, etc. Well, when I got to college, I began hanging out with Andrew, Daryl, Allison, Kara, and Rebecca who were all from Hobbs. I used to hang out with Andrew, Daryl, and Kara but I never really hung out with Allison, and didn’t even know Rebecca. :) Well, like I said, in college, we all hung out all the time…and they all became my best friends. People gave us hell because we stuck together…as “The Hobbsans.” As Andrew says in his blog, “James, Rebecca, Allison and I had a killer year our first year of college at NMSU (Killer = great). People probably thought I was a slut because I rarely slepped in my dorm room…I was on the floor next to James (not too close) with a towel for a pillow in Rebecca and Allison’s dorm room in Garcia. We hung out 90% of the time our freshman year.” We had a killer time, indeed. Good times… Anyway, on Tuesday, we met Andrew in Rocky Mount, NC for dinner. After college, Andrew moved to Washington, D.C. and his parents moved from Hobbs, NM to a small town in North Carolina. This was convenient for both of us…we both drove about an hour to meet up on Tuesday… Again, like Andrew says in his blog, “You know you are good friends with someone when you have’nt seen them in a year and when you do its like you have’nt seen them in a week.” It was great seeing you, buddy. See, the rest of you Hobbsans need to move to the east coast too…we can relive the freshman days.

Martha Stewart to build houses

A few months back, before I moved to Raleigh, I was thinking about building another KB Home in the Twin Lakes community of Cary, NC. My realtor told me that it would require a 2-day campout in order to get in on the first phase. Well, I didn’t have the time to wait out for 2 days, much less wait for my house to build in 6-8 months. It seems like it would have been worth it:

Oct 12, 2005 — NEW YORK (Reuters) - Martha Stewart will help design new homes in an agreement with builder KB Home that extends the lifestyle expert’s brand well beyond the merchandising of towels and kitchen utensils.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. and KB Home said on Wednesday the first model homes imprinted with Stewart’s style sense will be completed in 2006.

The first group to go on sale will include 650 houses in Cary, North Carolina, under the name “KB Home Twin Lakes: Homes Created with Martha Stewart,” the companies said.

Talk about building some equity!

Pictures from State Fair

I have just posted pictures from our department “team building” activity at the NC State Fair. You can find them here, or by selecting photos on the left side…they are under “NetApp.”

Great day tomorrow…

Tomorrow, my kind boss will be taking our department of six to the N.C. State Fair. She has at least one interesting event planned for us. As a team building event, we’re supposed to milk a cow. If you’ve seen this picture, you’ll know that milking won’t be that bad for me. I’ve had my hand inside the rumen of a live cow. Anyway, it should be a fun outing… I am anxious to see the Great Pumpkin. Apparently a guy named Wallace Simmons grows enormous pumpkins for the fair. This year, the pumpkin is 854 pounds, which happens to be the 3rd largest! The largest was 860 lbs. Now THAT’S a pumpkin!

1 Week ’til Close…

The house buying process is going pretty smoothly here, as we’re set to close next Thursday. We’re both ready to get out of the crummy 3rd floor apartment. Here is a picture of the new house, as promised:

Front of the new house

More (full-size) pictures from the listing are available in the photo album. Keep in mind this isn’t our stuff in the house.

Update: It’s a 1966 sqft. home located in northwest Raleigh. It was built in 2004 by Centex.

NMSU Updates

In the news for today regarding NMSU:

  • 1) NMSU updates website design: www.nmsu.edu It’s about time. We voted on the site design like two years ago. I think UofA also updated their design this semester.
  • 2) NMSU Football lost to Hawai’i, bringing them to 0-7 this year. Ouch!
