Quick blog redesign

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Today, I installed the new Internet Explorer 7 RC1 build and quickly realized how ugly the site looked in IE7. I had used the Benevolence theme with nightlys from the WordPress CVS for quite some time — and discovered it was completely not XHTML 1.0 Strict compliant. So, I’ve decided to move up to WordPress with K2. I’ll hopefully have some time tonight to put some of the content and touches back. Please bear with me — this will be under some construction for the next few days…

Akismet is fantastic!

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

A few months ago, I began to receive spam comments here on my blog. At first, it was only one or two..but that quickly became ten or so per day. I decided to activate the built-in Akismet plugin for Wordpress, and it turns out to have been one of the best decisions I’ve made. This is the message I got when I logged in today:

Akismet has protected your site from 1,062 spam comments.

I highly recommend this plugin to anyone on Wordpress!

Sorry for the lack of updates everyone. I’ve just been so busy at work that I haven’t had much time to blog. There’s lots of interesting things to note — hopefully I can get caught up…

One Year of Blogging

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Today marked my one year anniversary of blogging…On February 16, 2005, I made a post called “BLOG LAUNCH!” where I announced I was changing the jbctech.com domain over to my personal blog.

Thank you all for your contributions and support!

Blog Direction

Friday, January 6th, 2006

I arrived to work on Thursday to find that I had an internal email from someone in NetApp Worldwide Integrated Marketing regarding my blog. I am amazed; my little blog was found. So, that brings me to my point…I need to find a direction with this blog. I think I’m going to make it a little more ‘tech’ centric. I know that’s where I originally intended it to go, and most of you expected that…so that’s what I’m going to do. In our discussion, I realized that there aren’t many NetApp bloggers. I found that a quick Google search unveiled a few customers (or prospects) requesting more NetApp engineer bloggers. So, I’d like to hear some comments.

Forums Online

Friday, December 30th, 2005

This is for those of you who visit my site regularly.  I’ve noticed a few instances of people posting off-topic replies to blog entries…and while this is okay, it is inefficient for discussions.  Therefore, I’ve put up a forum for you all to post random things on.  You can use it to ask questions, make comments, tell us your life story, etc.  You can reach it at www.jbctech.com/forum.  I had this up before, and pulled it down when I redesigned the site, but I do think it is important..if you all use it.  If you want any categories/forums added, just let me know in the forums, and I’d be happy to add it.  So, I encourage you all to create a quick account on there and make a quick post.  Even if it’s just to say “Hi, I read your blog.”

WordPress 2.0

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005

While I was out of town, WordPress 2.0 was released (December 26). Looking at the WordPress Trac timeline, it appears as if Changeset 3362 included the version bump. For those of you who run WordPress for your blog, go grab a copy of v2.0 at www.wordpress.org.

I updated the blog to the full 2.0 version today.

Photos

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Since I got so many responses (ZERO), I’ve decided to go ahead and switch over to Flickr for the photo management.  Flickr provides a lot of really cool features and I should have used it a long time ago.  I’ve had an account for quite a while, but sorta said “Eh…” when I saw that it cost money for an account with any sort of capability/storage.  But, now I think it’s well worth the $24/year.  Anyway, I have integrated the Flickr album into WordPress using FAlbum, but unfortunately, it is displaying things out of alignment.  I’ll be working on that…if it bugs you too much, feel free to just visit my Flickr page.

WordPress 2.0-RC3

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

This morning, changeset 3332 for WordPress included a version bump to WordPress 2.0-RC3. Changes are still flying in…I know I’ve said this before, but it does appear that the full version 2.0 should be released soon. On Matt’s blog at boren.nu, he says:

The third and possibly final release candidate for WordPress 2.0 is now available for testing. The differences between this release candidate and 2.0 final will be limited to fixes for any high impact bugs that crop up. We’re getting very close.

Check the WordPress development timeline for the list of bug fixes.
